Real Bride Spotlight: Elizabeth’s Galia Lahav Wedding Gown Preservation

Elizabeth looked stunning while marrying the love of her life, Roberto, in her beautiful Galia Lahav wedding dress. She was lucky enough to get married in a spot her family has been visiting for 65 years and to have 15 members of Roberto’s family travel there from his home country of Venezuela.

What was your wedding date?
Our wedding date was June 25, 2016.  It was my 26th birthday and the 12th year anniversary of my husband’s arrival to the U.S.

What was your wedding location and venue name?
We had our ceremony and reception at Chippewa Retreat Resort and Spa in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin.  The bride’s mother’s side of the family has been going to this location for summer vacation for over 65 years.  It is a tradition that was made extra special in 2016.

Who is the designer of your wedding gown and where did you purchase it?

Elizabeth’s wedding gown is handmade in Tel Aviv, Israel by the designer Galia Lahav.  Elizabeth wore The Dolce from The Dolce Vita Collection on her wedding day.

When did you know your gown was “the one”?

It is not easy to find Galia Lahav gowns in the states.  I had already fallen in love with these pieces before ever seeing one in real life.  Her designs are so unique and spectacular that my heart was set on wearing one.  Luckily I found out through Instagram that Roma Sposa Altelier in Birmingham, Michigan was hosting a Galia Lahav trunk show.  It was only about a 6-hour drive from me, so my friend and I made the trip so that I could finally see the gowns in person.  I tried on about 7-10 gowns (it was a blur) and each was so beautiful that I could picture myself walking down the aisle in all of them.  But, as soon as I slipped into The Dolce with the lace and pearl accents, looked into the mirror, and then I felt it in my heart that was “the one”.  I didn’t even have to try on another dress for a second time because the choice was so crystal clear.  They put the veil on me and it was a done deal.

Also something else about the dress is that it was totally one that I did not even want to try on.  Then it ended up being “the one”.  After this experience, I always encourage brides-to-be to try on the dress that they don’t like on the hanger.

What is your absolute favorite memory from your wedding day?

My absolute favorite memory from our wedding day was looking into Roberto’s eyes and saying the words “I do.”  As we were saying our vows it was thundering, but at the same time a rainbow formed across the sky over the lake.  We did a butterfly release as part of the vows and the whole event was absolutely breathtaking.

Why did you want to get your gown cleaned and preserved?

First and foremost I wanted to get it cleaned as soon as possible after the wedding because it was worn outdoors.  As much as I would love to wear it again for an anniversary, I have not decided what I am going to do with it yet in the future.  We will have to see what happens as the time comes.

What made your wedding ceremony feel extra special?

The ceremony was held at a place that is very sacred place to my family.  I as well as many of the guests have fond memories of years of joyous activities that took place literally right there, especially those of my late father, grandmother, and grandfather.  My husband came to this country alone from Venezuela.  Although it is very difficult to get out of the country, we got to experience this beautiful day with about 15 members of his family who made the treacherous journey to celebrate with us.  That was extremely special.  Being surrounded by our closest friends and family, who had traveled near and far, in such a sacred place was what made the wedding ceremony extra special.  In addition, all of my vendors, flowers, photography, sound and light, were so amazing and professional that I can’t thank them enough for coming together and making everything perfect.  The person that deserves the most thanks for making my ceremony feel extra special goes out to my mother, Jane.  She did it all and our wedding wouldn’t have been possible without my superstar mom.

Why did you decide to get your gown cleaned by Janet Davis Cleaners, a member of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists?

I decided to get my gown clean by Janet Davis Cleaners because Roma Sposa recommended their services to me when the dress was purchased.  In addition the fact that Janet Davis Cleaners is a member of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists put my mind at ease, as they would be handling my most treasured garment.  Finally, I had to fill out my paperwork and billing information remotely because I live in Chicago.  Janet Davis’s customer service, client relationship, and overall friendliness are beyond superb standards.  I am glad that I chose this company to clean and preserve my precious wedding gown.
