Get your closet ready for fall & winter!

As the temperature is falling along with the leaves that means its time to bring out the warmer clothes. With a little bit of effort now, we can get your closet in tip top shape! The idea here isn’t to get rid of the old and bring in the new, but rather to rearrange and care for the clothes you already love.

The first step is to move all of your summer garments out of your closet (or at least to the back) and your winter items in. Remember to always store your clothing clean as moths only eat your clothes if there is something they want to eat on them. Before you put your clothes away, carefully inspect everything for rips, tears, spots or any other mishaps and have these taken care of so they are ready to wear next season. If you have no where to store your summer garments, Janet Davis Cleaners offers free seasonal garment storage (they immediately clean your clothes, then press them when you are ready to pick them up). As you load your closet remember to take the plastic off your clothes from they dry cleaners (but leave the paper garment covers as this prevents dust and fading). For your finer garments such as dresses and suits, store them in your closet in breathable garment bags.

Now that your closet is loaded, its time to set it up for success. Your goal is to have your closet loaded with winners making it easy to look your best every day. If you haven’t worn something in over a year, consider donating it to charity or at least moving it out of your main closet. With a little room to breathe, your clothes will look nicer when its time to put them on and they will be easier to find. As your going through your garments, keep an eye out for garments that are not ready to wear and make a pile. You’ll want to take care of these items now so they are ready when you want to wear them.

Hopefully this little guide will help you look your best with minimal effort.
