Our Luxury Coat Cleaning Process
See why Janet Davis Cleaners takes it a step further in cleaning and persevering your luxury coats.

Inspection & Fabric Identification
We start our luxury coat cleaning by thoroughly inspecting each coat to identify specific fabric types, down or synthetic insulation, and any embellishments or hardware by our highly trained staff.

Pre-Treatment for Stains
Next, we pretreat any stains found during the inspection. We use eco-friendly, gentle solutions to treat stains without damaging delicate fabrics or affecting the insulation’s performance.

Gentle Cleaning for Maximum Protection
We then use specialized cleaning methods that ensure down remains evenly distributed, jackets maintain their shape, and water-resistant materials are protected. Our specialized techniques and cleaning solutions are designed to thoroughly clean your high-end coat while still maintaining it’s integrity and appearance.

Down-Specific Drying Techniques
Coats with down insulation are dried using low heat and specific tumbling methods to prevent clumping and ensure loft is restored.

Fabric-Specific Finishing
We finish the process by carefully inspecting and pressing each coat to remove wrinkles and restore its pristine appearance without compromising fabric or insulation integrity. At last, you are left with a fresh and clean coat ready for wear!

“I wish I had known about Janet Davis all my life!!! They are amazing! A couple months ago I was at an event wearing a pale petal pink trenchcoat. I love that coat. In a theater, someone spilled red wine down the back of it. It was horrifying. I took it to my usual dry cleaners, and it came back with that horrible ticket attached to the hanger saying they couldn’t completely get the stain out. It was un-wearable. The huge splattered stain had just faded to a brownish gray.
I didn’t want to give up on this expensive coat, though, and found Janet Davis cleaners recommended as experts in stain removal. So I took it there, explained the situation, and the person I spoke with was candid about how they’d have to try, and couldn’t guarantee. I told them I completely understood that. They called later because their expert stain remover wanted permission to soak the coat even though it says “dry clean only.“ I gave my permission because there was nothing to lose. Well… The stain is completely out. The coat looks like new. I couldn’t be happier!
On top of that, I have never interacted with a company with better customer service. They send updates along the way and have a site where you can check on your job. Once the coat was ready I got a text with a link to pay and a choice to go pick it up or schedule a delivery. Because I live 30 minutes away, I chose the delivery option. When the day of delivery arrived, however, we had construction starting on our house that had been delayed. It was just a coincidence. I went back-and-forth via text about the best place to drop off the coat because we had work crews, dumpsters in the driveway, etc. The person I was interacting with was so sweet, and so patient with explaining to me how they could handle this. Usually I’m so worried about pissing off a business because things aren’t perfectly convenient, and they were the opposite. They were worried about my convenience.
This sounds crazy, but I just can’t wait to send my next load of dry cleaning simply to interact with this business again. One job and it feels like family. I couldn’t recommend Janet Davis Cleaners more.
Oh and I should add… they saved my $300 coat and it cost me: $34. Amazing.”

Here’s how we protect and preserve the water-resistant performance of your luxury outerwear:
Assessment & Fabric Identification
Before cleaning, each coat is thoroughly inspected to identify the fabric type, insulation material, and specific care instructions. This assessment helps us determine whether the coat should be wet cleaned or dry cleaned, based on what is best for the garment’s water-resistant properties and overall condition.
Professional Wet Cleaning
For many down and water-resistant jackets, wet cleaning is the preferred method. We use pH-neutral detergents and controlled water temperature settings that effectively clean without compromising the integrity of the coating or insulation.
Dry Cleaning
For jackets that require a more delicate approach or when specified by the care label, we use dry cleaning techniques. Our eco-friendly dry cleaning solvents are gentle on water-resistant coatings and safe for delicate outer fabrics, ensuring the coat is cleaned without affecting its performance.
Controlled Cleaning Cycles
Whether wet cleaning or dry cleaning, we use controlled agitation and cleaning cycles tailored to the fabric type and the level of soil or stains present. This prevents unnecessary wear on the fabric and preserves the natural water resistance of the coat.
No Harsh Chemicals or Fabric Softeners
We do not use harsh chemicals or fabric softeners that can strip away the coating or cause damage to technical fabrics. This careful approach ensures that the jacket retains its water-repellent properties, even after multiple cleanings.
Specialized Drying Techniques
After cleaning, we employ gentle drying techniques that suit the specific material of each coat. For down-filled jackets, we use low heat and appropriate tumbling to prevent down clumping and maintain loft, while preserving the outer shell’s performance features.
Final Inspection & Performance Testing
Once cleaned and dried, each jacket undergoes a final inspection. If necessary, we test the coat’s water-resistant properties by lightly spraying water onto the fabric to ensure it beads up and rolls off, indicating that the coating is intact and effective.
By following this detailed and methodical approach, the team at Janet Davis Cleaners ensures that each luxury down coat cleaning is completed according to its specific needs—whether by professional wet cleaning or dry cleaning—while preserving the water-resistant properties and overall quality of your luxury outerwear.

How often should I clean my luxury winter coat?
We recommend cleaning your luxury winter coat when it becomes visibly dirty or at the end of every season you wear it. Regular cleaning helps remove dirt, oils, and environmental pollutants that can damage the fabric and insulation over time. End-of-season cleaning also ensures your coat is fresh and ready for storage, helping to maintain its appearance and performance for future use.
Can you fix the clumping in my coat?
Yes, we have a process for restoring the loft of down-filled coats that have developed clumping. Clumping often occurs when the down insulation becomes wet and isn’t properly dried. The best approach is to clean and dry your coat according to the care label instructions. For down items, drying on low heat for an extended period, along with gentle mechanical action (such as using wool dryer balls), typically helps to break up the clumps and restore the coat’s insulation. Our team is experienced in handling this and can ensure your coat is returned to its original warmth and comfort without damaging the delicate materials.
What’s the best way to care for a Canada Goose coat?
We recommend dry cleaning your Canada Goose coat to prevent any damage to the fabric or clumping down insulation. At Janis Davis Cleaners, we follow the care label carefully to ensure we use the correct cleaning methods for the fabric and insulation. Avoid compressing your coat while in storage. It’s best to store it in a cool, dry place when not in use.
Will cleaning affect my coat’s water resistance?
No, not when done properly. Wet cleaning is generally the best method for cleaning water-resistant fabrics. We use pH-neutral detergents and controlled water temperature settings to clean your jacket without damaging the fabric.
Can you clean fur trim or repair zippers?
Yes! We have the specialty cleaning products and techniques to carefully clean any fur trim on your coats. We also offer zipper repairs.
